Great Man lessons with Stephen Manfield

Great Man

Stephen Mansfield shared wonderful lessons about being a Great Man (Godly Man) in the seminar we attended last May 5, 2015. It was an eye-opener for me to learn that in Damascus, Syria, if a man fathers a son, they celebrate manhood with joyful noises and grant the father with a new name. He shared that his new name is “Abujon” which came from “Abu”, father of and “jon”, a short version of his son’s name, Jonathan.

There is always another Chance

“This thing that we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down but the staying down,” said Mary Pickford. She confided to her good friends her secret of calm serenity, of rising above every distressing circumstance, of going on with courage and hope, no matter what happened.

“What looks like the end of the road in our personal experience,” she said, “is only the turn in the road, the beginning of a new and more beautiful journey. I have always tried to live by that philosophy, and it has kept me happy.”

Among those good friends was the editor of a national magazine and he persuaded her to write an article for his magazine, expressing her views and beliefs. She was reluctant at first but he convinced her saying that she had no right to withhold her philosophy if it would help even one other person.

So, as she began to think about the article, first of all, she would emphasize her faith in God, and show how faith gave her courage to meet the trials and disappointments of life. She explained how she looked upon unhappy experiences as a turn in the road—an end, but also a beginning. Above all, she would try to make her readers see that life always held a promise, that there was always another chance for everyone, no matter how hopeless things might seem. Then she wrote:

“Today is a new day. You will get out of it just what you put into it. If you have made mistakes, even serious mistakes, there is always another chance for you. And supposing you have tried and failed again and again, you may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down but the staying down.”

The gist of Mary Pickford’s message is this: “You are never beaten unless you give up. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose.

“All that is necessary to break the spell of inertia and frustration is this: Act as if it were impossible to fail. That is the talisman, the formula, the command of right-about-face which turns us from failure towards success,” said Dorothea Brande.

The Lord Jesus Christ said to His disciples, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” And in other places in the Scriptures, “With God, all things are possible.”

Remember Who You Are In Christ

We just finished with our three-day mid-year prayer and fasting (July 1-3) and it was an awesome discovery.

I was reminded of who I am in Christ and that everything I need has been provided. I just need to ask from Him and be prepared to receive the blessings. The challenge is not in the preparation for the blessings that will come as we go on believing in His Word and His Character.

Well, in all the successes we can achieve in business or career, and when all is said and done, remember who we are in Christ. As we receive His gift of salvation:

  • we are to live a life of joy, under the power of the Holy Spirit,
  • we are considered heirs in Christ
  • we are to live under light and no longer in the dark
  • we live under His grace and mercy
  • we are not to live in the spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline
  • we love people
